Frequently Asked Questions

Here you find some important answers to our hostel’s service

A
Adapters:
 Adapters for your electrical equipment can be obtained from reception upon payment of a deposit.
Airport:

B
Bedding:
 Single & double rooms: Full bedding (duvet & pillow), towels, shampoo and soap provided. Dormitories: Bed linen, sheets and towels provided.
Breakfast:
 we do not serve breakfast. On every floor, you can find a fully equipped kitchen. A small choice of food/beverages you will find at reception. Close to the hostel, you find some bakeries/cafeterias that serve breakfast.

C
Check-in:
 Check-in time is during the normal reception hours. Please note that the rooms are not available until 3 pm on your arrival day. You can leave your luggage in our day-lockers in the basement.
Check-out:

Check-out time is by 10 am. If you may want to stay longer, please let us know by 10 pm the day before. You can leave your luggage in our day-lockers in the basement until 10 pm the same day.

Children:
 A children’s playground is available n the basement, with a fine BRIO train, games, toys and some children’s videos.
City Map:
A map of Geneva is available for free at reception
Chocolates:
 We do have for you a special chocolate offer (1 kilo of the best Swiss Chocolate divided in 10 tablets for only Sfr. 15.--). See our chocolate selection at reception.

Day Lockers:
 We do have free day-lockers. Ask at reception for a padlock or use your own. You’ll find the lockers in the basement.
Dormitory:
 Dormitories are reserved only for backpackers.
Drinks:
 Find a huge selection of non-alcoholic drinks at reception. Beer & wine is available also.

Electrical supply:

220 volts
Excursions:
 See the information board in your room or in the main-hall for information on excursions. The staff would also be pleased to supply you with further details.

Families:
 Families are welcome at our hostel. Baby cribs are available for children up to 2 years. No charge is made for children sleeping in their parents’ bed. A children’s playground is available n the basement, with a fine BRIO train, games, toys and some children’s videos. Please note that families must reserve their own room.
Fax:
We do provide fax services at reception.
Fire:
The hostel has a fully integrated fire alarm system corresponding to the latest security norms. Additional fire doors are installed on each floor, which close automatically in case of fire.
Foreign exchange:
 We do change Euros (only bills) at reception.

Garage:
 Parking space is available in our covered garage at a price of Sfr. 10.—per day.
Groups:
 We accept groups of up to 10 guests. (Please send us an email or a fax at ++41 22 901 15 60 indicating the number of guests, arrival and departure dates, and the type of rooms required)

Hairdryer:
 Hairdryers are available on each floor in the new sanitary installations.

Ironing board:
An ironing board is provided in the Coin laundry. Please ask for an iron at reception.
Internet:
 We do have a new Internet-room with ADSL-line and 7 stations and one printer (CD burner and USB access). Open daily from 7.30 to 2 am. Cost Sfr.3.--(Euro 2.--)/hour.

Late Arrival:
It is possible for the late arrivals to check in up to 1.30 am. If you would arrive later than 11 pm midnight, please inform us by email at info@cityhostel.ch with your approximated time of arrival.
Laundry:
We do have Coin-laundry facilities (2 washing machines & 2 dryers). Open from 7 am – midnight
Lockers:
 We do have lockers! There are special personal lockers, food-lockers & very innovative fridge lockers. Keys are available at reception.
Long term stay:

Maximum stay in our dormitories is 8 days
Maximum stay in our double rooms 8 days
Maximum stay in our single rooms 21 days

Please note that we are a Youth Hotel and not a residence for long-term stays.

M
Mail:
You will receive incoming mail from reception. Outgoing mail can be handed in at reception. Postage stamps can also be obtained from reception.
Membership:
We are an independent hostel. We do not ask for any membership. We do support the independent European Hostel cooperation gomio.com (see www.gomio.com).

Non-smoking rooms:
Due to health & security reasons, this is a non-smoking hostel.

P
Palexpo:
Palexpo is a huge fairground complex next to Geneva Int. Airport. Bus no. 5 from train-station takes you directly to Palexpo (appr. 15 min).
Parking lot for cars / Bicycle Room:
 We do have an enclosed garage for cars (Sfr. 10.--/day for car & a bicycles room that’s free of charge).
Pets:
Pets are not allowed in our hostel.
Photocopies:
 Photocopies can be made at reception for a small charge.

R
Reception:
 Opening-hours 07:30 am – noon & 1 pm – midnight (late arrival possible up to 1.30 am). With your room key, you may enter all the day/night in the hostel.
Reservation:
Please reserve through our secure online-system.
Relaxation room:
 A relaxation room is available in the basement, with TV, coin-operated internet stations, wireless internet, baby foot, children’s corner and more….. .

 This very comprehensive low-budget guide will help you to explore Switzerland. Pick up your free copy at reception.

Taxi:
Ask for taxi service at reception or call 022-3314133 (Geneva taxi).
Telephone:
We have 2 public phones in the basement. Use your own credit card, coins or buy an International phone card (excellent rates for international calls) at reception.
TPG:
 Geneva Public Transport System. You will find all the information you need regarding timetables, pricing, etc. at www.tpg.ch.During their stay, guests at City Hostel Geneva may use Geneva public transport facilities for free. Please pick up your Geneva Transport Card at the reception
Train Ticket:
Enjoy the most beautiful train trips in Switzerland. We do sell special train passes at very low prices (link to train passes). Individual train trips are very expensive.
TV/Video:
We do have a nice TV room with very comfortable chairs. English version movies are shown daily in the evening. Channels in english available during the day.

W
WiFi:
We have  wifi access in all the building. We charge the following rates for the wifi: 1 hour = Sfr. 2.--; 1 day = Sfr. 5.--; 7 days = Sfr. 15.—
